March Update and Prayer Requests

March 25, 2010

Squamish is now our home!  Mary & I have moved what is left of our “stuff” and are now permanent residents of Squamish.  It is great not having to wonder what house things are in or having to make that weekly trek back and forth.  Thank you all for your prayers.  There are many homes still on the market and we realize that it is only by God’s grace that ours sold…and for the price we needed to get for it.  We are looking at homes this week in Squamish and covet your prayers. We are praying that the Lord will make it very clear when the one He has in store for us comes up.

All of the alterations to the ministry space are completed and we are ready to begin.  If all goes according to plan, we will start up the Co-op the week following Easter….and are doing our first big food buy this week.  We already have a number of interested people (TBTG) and are confident that the Co-op will be a great source of new relationships from which we can build a congregation. In prayer last week, I believe that the Lord gave me a word….that we will be able to begin a new relationship with one family each week.  We have received that with thanksgiving, are looking and praying for opportunities to share the vision with new people.  My friend Ike also gave us a word about the Samaritan woman at the well, and has been praying that the Lord will bring us a new believer who will tell all her friends what Jesus has done for her!  We have received that prophetic word also, and are praying into it also.

We are planning to host couple of “open house” events over the next 6-8 weeks to show the neighbours they have nothing to fear from our presence among them.  Please pray for receptive hearts and open minds that are willing to welcome us into their midst….and that their ears will be open as we cast the vision for this new believing community.

We are still seeking discernment for a young Pastor or intern couple to fill out our ministry team. Please be in prayer that the Lord will raise up pastors or lay ministers who would be the perfect fit for this ministry.

We would have loved to begin an Alpha course this spring, but it will have to wait until September.  Please continue to pray that we will be able to raise helpers for both the Co-op and Alpha and that we can attract 10-15 young adults who would like to learn what the Christian faith is about.

Other Prayer Concerns

-      Recruit Launch Team

-      The house the Lord has for us in the situation he has determined and for the price he will provide for.

-      Favour with Squamish Community: As we approach start-up for the Food Co-op, There is likely to be a lot of confusion in the community about what we are doing. A couple of people have already “warned” us about appearing to be in competition with other social agencies. So, we would appreciate prayer for clarity and understanding....and for the opportunities to cast the vision  Among key community groupings.

-      Finances: Lord has graciously put it on the hearts of many supporters to donate for our 2010 expenses.  As you can see, our need list is being ticked off one by one.(PTL!)   However, some things that we still need are:

-      Prayer Room Furniture                         $500-700

-      Part time Intern/Assistant Pastor                   $1500/mo.

If you believe that the Lord may be calling you to covenant with us in prayer, financial support or even in ministry... we would love to hear from you.  Please tell us what you receive from the Lord as you pray.  We can be contacted by phone at 604-567-7400 or at barclay@mountainvalleymission.ca.

Your discernment will help us to continue to walk in God’s will and timing.  If you have the ability & calling to support this new ministry financially, please address your offerings(Until the end of March) to the Anglican Coalition in Canada, PO Box 71038, 3552 W41st Avenue, Vancouver BC, V6N 4J9, and designate it to the Mountain Valley Mission.   If you are called to donate after April 1st, checks can be sent directly to Mountain Valley Mission, Box 1231, Squamish BC  V8B 0A8 or online through Canada Helps. A link can be found on our website at www.mountainvalleymission.ca

Thank you for your friendship, your prayer and faithful ministry to us.

Your servants in Christ,
