Mary & I have been awesomely blessed to have so many faithful intercessors and financial supporters in this last season of ministry. Your generosity has not only allowed us to meet this year’s budget, but to move comfortably into the first couple of months of 2012. Please keep praying for the Lord to send down the “cattle from the thousand hills” and for the mission’s ministry to increase as we seek to be a blessing the least, lost and broken of Squamish.

This Sunday I would like to focus on the two of the three angelic visitation stories that precede the birth of Jesus. One is from what the church refers to as the incarnation, where Mary is told by the angel that she is with child through the work of the Holy Spirit. The other reading focuses on Joseph and his reactions to an angelic visit. I believed that these two stories should be read together. They give us a vivid picture of how the lives of these two young people are so completely...

How we use our wealth does matter to God. In the sixth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus called upon believers to store up treasure in heaven rather than on earth. That is, we are to seek after and pursue things that are important to the heart of God, rather than the sinful desires of man. What is the heart of God? In Matthew 25:35 Jesus said, “For I was hungry and you gave me to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was stranger and you invited me...

For a Christian Pastor, is one of the most humbling passage of scripture in the gospels. I actually believe that it should be read at every ordination, for the traps contained in this scripture are gaping holes into which almost every cleric falls at one time or other in their years of Christian ministry. I know this, to my shame, from personal experience. These traps lead not only to personal spiritual destruction, but also to poverty in our...

This morning I would like to have us take a look at three of the most lethal traps that Satan uses to knock believers off of the path of righteousness. Each of today’s readings contains clues to these deceptions and also God’s tools for combatting them. The first is found in Psalms 37. As Christians we often look around us and see what appears as consistent reward for evil and sin…and just the opposite for the righteous. That is, those who pay absolutely no...

The reason is…that a worldly or secular attitude towards the accumulation of of wealth is essentially...

During these days of relative quiet, the Lord has been working on me about what is important and requiste, what is "nice", and that which just needs to be avoided at all costs. This morning, as I was reading in the 51st Psalm that question was forced once again to the surface. Verse 6 says, (ESV) Behold, your delight in truth in the inward being." In short, there is no palce for pretense when dealing with God. He wants me to have integrity, not just be seen to be righteous. ...

I was reading in Matthew 14 this morning and noted something about Jesus that sets a wonderful example for the rest of us. On hearing that his friend John (the Babtist) had been beheaded, Jesus withdrew to a quiet place, presumably to grieve his loss and pray. That desired quiet time was shattered, however, as throngs of people...accompanied by his inwitting disciples...sought after him. Their need was great, and Jesus...even though he was hungry for solitude, allowed himeself to be...

Mary and I are re-reading the story of the Prodigal son in Luke’s gospel. The staggering abundance of the father’s grace towards the totally underserving son is almost incomprehensible. It stands in stark contrast to the way in which most of society, from that day to this, would respond to someone who has rejected authority, broken relationship and descended into almost total degradation.
The structures of our communities are designed, set-up and administered to reward individual...

I was reading in Leviticus 4 the other day and it occured to me that God goes out of His way to show mercy. There are many offenses listed in this passage, and in each case a vehicle for restoration is provided by God. It is true for those who are guilty of unintended sin, and also for those who intentionnally sin but are brought to repentance. Over and over again its says..."and the priest shall make attonement for him for the sin he has committed, and he shall be forgiven." True, there...

The Lord has answered your prayers for a facility for us to work from. I had been praying one morning before dropping Mary off at our daughter-in-law’s home. As I was driving away, I felt the Spirit directing me to the end of 2nd avenue. There I discovered a storefront for rent and another for sale. I phoned, and while waiting for...

We did have a “stager” come around last week and offer some great suggestions for making it more saleable. So, Mary & I have been moving furniture and painting all week!
Job 6-7; Acts 12 & Mark 13....It is a strange juxtaposition to read of Job's predicament in one moment, Peters imprisionment the next and finally Jesus admonishment that we should stand firm until the end. We have not been promised that everything will go well for us...or that we will not experience pain and suffering. We have been promised that in the end, "not one hair on our head will be harmed", but there is much living, struggle and suffering to endure until that final day...
